Food input costs set to rise a further 8–12% by year-end

    Why

Food inflation reached 31.4% in September, up from 29.8% in August(1), and the pressure is now coming from the supply side. Flooding since August has affected about 18% of planted area in the main growing belt, and the agriculture ministry's 6 October warning on maize disease puts what survives at further risk(2).

At the same time, a currency that has lost 11.3% against the dollar since July is lifting the cost of fertiliser and packaging, so a weaker harvest is arriving as a cost shock, not a cushioned one(3).

    What to expect

Staple prices are likely to rise a further 8–12% by year-end, steepest after the November harvest, as the weaker crop meets higher import costs.

    What to do

    1. 1Lock in supplier prices for the next two quarters.
    2. 2Identify an alternative to your main supplier.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

How do we get started?

Start a free trial or book a walkthrough. We will help you shape Ristill around your organisation.

Do we need technical people?

No. You do not need engineers to get started.

Who sees the briefs?

Only the people you choose. You decide who receives what.

Can we change what we receive later?

Yes. You can change what matters to you, how much detail you get and when it arrives, whenever you like.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. New organisations start with a trial, so you can see real briefs before you commit.

Can we share briefs beyond our own team?

Yes. Send them to your internal team, a newsletter or your own channels, once you are happy with them.

How soon do we start receiving briefs?

Shortly after your walkthrough, once Ristill has been shaped around what matters to you.

Is Ristill only for policy teams?

No. It is for any organisation where information chaos gets in the way and timely intelligence is imperative, from health, energy and finance to non-profits, media, manufacturing and more.

Can we approve things before they go out?

Yes. You can require approval before anything is sent, and choose where it goes.

Where does the information come from?

From official and trusted public sources, such as regulators, central banks, ministries and market data. Briefs cite them, so you can check for yourself.

How much does it cost?

It depends on your team and what you need. Talk to us and we will find the right plan.

What if we need something we do not see here?

Tell us. We will talk through what you need and what is possible on your plan.
